LaVon Johns received her undergraduate degree from Creighton University, magna cum laude, in 1993 and her law degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1996. Ms. Johns joined the Firm as the manager of the Real Estate Practice Group. Prior to joining the Firm, she spent most of her career as an associate at Altheimer & Gray in Chicago.
Ms. Johns has represented numerous commercial and industrial clients in multi-million dollar commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, real-estate based financings, development transactions and office and retail management and leasing relating to real property located in the U.S. and abroad. She also represents non-for-profit organizations in the redevelopment of real estate. Ms. Johns has extensive experience in counseling clients engaged in corporate mergers and acquisitions involving real property.
Ms. Johns is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Nebraska. Ms. Johns is a member of Women in Planning & Development, the Chicago Bar Association and the American Bar Association, Affordable Housing Subcommittee. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms and has also served as Co-Chairperson of the Cook County Bar Association Minority Job Fair. In 2004, Ms. Johns was selected as one of “40 Illinois Attorneys under 40 to Watch” by Law Bulletin Publishing Company. Most recently, Ms. Johns has been designated a 2006 “Illinois Super Lawyer” as a result of research conducted jointly by Law & Politics and Chicago magazines.
